At Limber, we’re proud to support Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month (LLLDAM), observed each April and led by the Amputee Coalition. This important initiative raises awareness about the challenges faced by individuals living with limb loss or limb difference, while fostering advocacy, education, and community support. Limber’s mission is to make high-quality, affordable prosthetic care accessible for all—particularly below-knee amputees—through advanced technology and compassionate, patient-centered design. This month serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience within the limb-loss community and provides a platform to amplify their voices, share their stories, and spark meaningful conversations about inclusive, life-changing mobility solutions.
For our BKA community, this awareness month provides a platform to highlight unique amputee experiences, promote inclusion, and spark conversations about innovative mobility solutions, like the UniLeg, that can enhance their quality of life.

The Importance of Awareness for Below-Knee Amputees
Limb loss impacts over 2 million people in the U.S., with the number expected to double by 2050. Below-knee amputations, also known as transtibial amputations, make up a significant portion of limb loss cases, often resulting from trauma, vascular disease, or diabetes. Awareness efforts for this specific group ensure that the physical, emotional, and social aspects of their journey are brought to light.
Below-knee amputees often face unique mobility challenges. While prosthetic technology has advanced significantly, including digital design and 3D printed devices, it’s crucial to continue raising awareness about the need for affordable and accessible, high-quality prosthetic solutions and support systems. This includes educating the public on how below-knee amputees regain independence through prosthetics, physical therapy, and community support.
Breaking the Stigma
One key goal of Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month is to break the stigma surrounding amputees and normalize the conversation about limb loss. Many amputees face societal challenges, such as misconceptions about their abilities, awkward encounters in public spaces, and difficulties accessing work opportunities.
Through awareness campaigns, people can become more familiar with the day-to-day realities of those with prosthetics, helping reduce bias and open doors for inclusion. For below-knee amputees, this means educating the public on their ability to perform everyday tasks with the help of prosthetics, removing the idea that limb loss equates to loss of independence.

Innovations in Prosthetic Technology
Technological advancements in prosthetics have revolutionized the way below-knee amputees experience mobility. Lightweight materials, increased durability, and improved socket designs have contributed to a more comfortable and natural gait for wearers. Additionally, prosthetic companies like Limber work to ensure that prosthetic limbs are accessible to all, regardless of financial background. These developments highlight the importance of continued investment in prosthetic technology, research, and awareness about the needs of amputees. Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month is the perfect time to emphasize these advancements and advocate for better access to prosthetics for all amputees.

Limber is dedicated to helping below-knee amputees regain their active lifestyles through advanced, cost-effective prosthetic solutions. By utilizing cutting-edge 3D printing technology, Limber creates custom prosthetic limbs that are lightweight, durable, and highly functional. Our patient-centered approach ensures that each prosthetic is tailored to the individual's needs, allowing for a more natural range of motion and comfort. Limber’s commitment to innovation and accessibility enables amputees to pursue physical activities, sports, and everyday tasks with renewed confidence and independence.
